Today's tutorial is aimed at all those people who have decided to enter the world of the operating system for Android mobile devices. Many users new to this system will have never heard of them and therefore have no idea what those acronyms mean.
The majority of those who have had contact with them are those who for one reason or another have installed a ROM on their device and upon finishing the installation they have found that the device does not work well. Today we explain to you that this malfunction is due to missing Gaaps that were not included in the ROM. We teach you how to solve the problem step by step.
Gaaps is short for Google Apps, or more commonly called Google Apps. Gaaps are the applications that the system needs for it to work well. The application package called gaps is made up of: Google Play, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Docs, Google Groups, Google Calendar, Google Sites, among other. Each and every one of these applications are universal since they are used on all devices in the same way regardless of whether it is a mobile phone or tablet. These applications become so important to the point that on tablets like the Nexus, in order to activate and use them, it is necessary to do so through Gmail. However, for Google it is as important to install Gmail as the Google Play Store, since as you know it is the store where we will be able to download the applications that the developers make available to us. If you are in the situation of needing to install Gaaps that your device does not have for whatever reason, below we explain what you have to do in a few simple steps. We have to look for the Gaaps that we need and download them so we can install them later.
One very important thing to keep in mind is that Gapps for Gingerbread or previous versions do not take up much space in RAM so we can install them without problem on any terminal. However, Gapps created for Ice Cream Sandwich and later versions take up more space in RAM, so it is not advisable to flash them on low-end terminals and if they are flashed we must use a reduced version of them such as Tiny or Lite.
There is a version of Gaaps for each of the Android versions that has been released and to download them we only have to select the ones corresponding to the ROM we are using. In this link you can find the appropriate Gapps for each device.
The way to install a Gaap is similar to the installation procedure of a ROM except that you do not have to do the wipes. To install the Gapps you will follow the following steps:
1. You must have installed ROM Manager and download the Gapps package to your SD.
2. We enter ROM Manager and select the option «Reboot into Recovery». We can also enter recovery mode by pressing the power button, the home button and the volume up button.
3. The device will reboot and enter the recovery mode. In this menu (navigating with the volume keys and confirming with the power button) is where we are going to select what we want to do.
4. The next step is to install the Gapps, for which we will select the option "Install zip from sdcard" and then «choose zip from sdcard».
5. Now we navigate through the folders until we select the Gapps in ".zip" format. When you do, they will begin to install. When finished, we return to the main menu and choose the option "Reboot system now".
6. After the device restarts, it should ask you to set up a Google account (Gmail). Only when we do this will Google Play appear, so you will need to have an Internet connection for this last step.
Once the previous six steps have been completed, you will have your device fixed and with the missing Gapps installed and working.
