2013 has been an important year for the technology industry in which we have seen some companies, such as BlackBerry and Microsoft, tremble, while others have established themselves even more in various markets, such as Google, Samsung and Apple. It is time to review these twelve months that we leave behind and highlight those that have been the ten biggest technological disasters that have failed to take off or that have caused anger among users.
Below we present what for us they have been the ten biggest failures of the year in the industry:
10. Ouya
Without a doubt, the team behind this console - which was unveiled on the Kickstarter platform - managed to generate high expectations around its product. The launch of Ouya was highly criticized, because those users who had paid for it for a long time saw how the console arrived on store shelves before their homes. Ouya's catalog has been highly criticized, as has its interface.
9.Yahoo Mail
This month, Yahoo's email service suffered a major outage that lasted for a full week. Hundreds of thousands of users around the world stopped receiving emails in their accounts that week, and Marissa Mayer said the problem was fixed before the crashes actually stopped occurring. Mayer had to admit that "Yahoo had disappointed its customers."
8.Galaxy Gear
Samsung may indeed have gone too far ahead with the launch of an “immature” product on the market. The watch has not generated great sales and Samsung has had to do everything possible to silence the rumors that the Galaxy Gear has been an absolute failure in international markets. Pebble has taken center stage in the smartwatch market this year.
7. HP Chromebook 11
Google and HP have screwed up with a defective product. Both companies had to withdraw the laptop from the market for the simple reason that its charger came out on fire. It happened to dozens of people.
6.Surface 2
Microsoft has lost more than 800 million dollars by continuing to bet on a tablet that has not been able to beat its biggest rival: the iPad. It should be noted that Surface 2 still does not have LTE connectivity, despite user complaints, and that Windows 8.1 has not taken off as an operating system either.
5.Blackberry
It has been one of the biggest technological disasters of the year. First, the company has generated too low sales of its flagship products, such as the BlackBerry Z10. Secondly, the firm was put up for sale, but then it ended with a new investment from a financial group, a new CEO and the cancellation of two products for 2014. BlackBerry's losses are already multimillion-dollar.
4.TwitterMusic
Many of you probably won't even remember it anymore. Twitter launched its own service to discover music and new artists (with application included). It was a really poorly developed idea and at no time could it overshadow the dominant music services on the market.
3.Facebook Home
The Facebook interface for the Android operating system that basically "trimmed" all the features of our phones to immerse us in a world dedicated solely to the social network. A terrible approach and one that Facebook continued to insist on. We haven't heard anything about it in a while, so let's hope Facebook Home is dead by now.
2. HTC First
It was the first smartphone to hit the market with the Facebook Home interface installed by default. Its sales were so bad that its launch in other countries was "postponed", other smartphone models that came with Facebook Home were canceled and even the AT&T operator in the United States had to start offering the phone for only 0,99 cents ( a ridiculous price).
1 Target
Target already has several scandals accumulated this month. The American retail chain has confirmed that more than 40 million of its customers' credit cards are at risk after a hacker attack was detected. More recently, the company has been selling used iPad Airs and iPods that actually contained erasers.
