Setting up your Synology
Synology is one of the most popular brands when it comes to NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems. The initial configuration of your Synology is essential for its proper functioning with Plex. To set up Plex on your Synology, you need to first set up your Synology.
Firstly, after connecting your Synology to the network, you must log in to DiskStation Manager (DSM), Synology's web-based user interface. Make sure your Synology is running an updated version of DSM.
Installing Plex on Synology
After you have your Synology set up and up to date, it's time to install Plex.
- Enter the Synology “Package Center”.
- Search for “Plex.”
- Click "Install".
Plex will start installing on your Synology. Remember, this step may take a few minutes and varies depending on the Synology device you have and the speed of your internet connection.
Accessing Plex on Synology
Once you have installed plex, you should be able to access it from any device that is on the same network as your Synology. You can do this by putting your Synology's IP address followed by :32400/web in the browser bar.
You should see the Plex interface. At this point, you should sign in or create a Plex account, if you don't have one already.
Setting up your Plex media library
The next step to get Plex working properly on your Synology is to set up your media library. Plex uses this library to organize and present your content in an attractive and easy-to-navigate way.
Here's how to add content to your library:
- In the Plex interface, go to “Settings”.
- Select "Libraries."
- Choose “Add Library.”
- Select the type of content you want to add (music, movies, photos, etc.).
- Click “Search” and locate your files on your Synology.
- Add the files and click "Save"
Reviewing Plex Server Configuration
Finally, be sure to review and modify (if necessary) the Plex server settings on your Synology. You can access these settings in the same Plex interface, in "Settings" and then "Server."
This review will help you make sure everything is set up correctly and that you have full control of how Plex works on your Synology. Remember, every setting you change here will affect how your content plays, so make sure you know what you're doing before changing any settings.
With this guide, you will be able to make the most of the combination plex y Synology, giving you a powerful, flexible and highly accessible multimedia center.
